Canberra Monaro N Scale Group (CMNSG) Inc, has operated in the Canberra / Southern NSW Region for the last 20 years. The Club is a registered Australian Men’s Shed, currently without a shed. We bring men and women together around a common interest in N Scale (1:160) model railways, along with all the social networking and support that comes with being a member of the group.

The Club utilises a series of modular units built to the Austrak standard. In the past these were owned by individual members, however over the years as members have left, they have donated their modules. The Club owns over 40 modules, mostly 1200 x 600mm long, although the round-house module is 1800 x 1800mm. The Club can exhibit model railway layouts up to 10m x 10m in size with the modules. More recently we have developed an ‘Exhibition’ layout that can use two or three standard modules in an easy to manage ‘fly away’ format that allows our members to attend and represent the Club, without the complex logistics of transporting larger layouts.

To date the Club has been reliant on the generosity of a few loyal members to store the modules at their place of residence, garages, sheds, etc., which is becoming increasingly unsustainable as some of our members now seek to down-size or seek alternative lifestyle choices.

In the medium term, the Club would like to have a location where we can set-up a layout for use by the members to run their model trains at times that suit them. We currently hire a local Scout hall for one weekend a month for 9 months of the year, with participation in local Model Railway Exhibitions, namely Canberra Model Rail Expo at Kaleen, Malkara Scale Model Exhibition, and the Wagga Wagga Model Railway Show. We were awarded ‘Best Layout’ at the 2019 Kaleen Show.

In the longer term, we would like to establish a more permanent layout (removable in larger sections) for our members to run on, along the lines of the facility owned and operated by Sydney N. A few of our members are also members of Sydney N and commute regularly to Rockdale, some by train, to use their established facilities.
